High precision bearing units

IBC recommends ready-to-fit precision bearing units for quick and uncomplicated installation. The main area of application for the bearing units, which are lubricated for life and sealed via labyrinths, is ball screw drives on machine tools. A wide variety of arrangements in the rolling bearing set, which fulfil the most diverse requirements on the rolling bearing in terms of high axial load rating and rigidity, high running accuracy, low frictional torque and the absorption of high speeds and accelerations, have resulted in a variable modular system that offers designers great flexibility, for example in the design of variants.

Some precision bearing housings of the same installation space are available with 60° axial angular contact ball bearings with different bores. This has proven to be advantageous for machine tools with different axis lengths in that a larger KGT diameter must be selected for larger strokes if the critical bending limit speed of the spindle is exceeded. In this case, rolling bearings with different bores and otherwise identical connection dimensions allow users to standardise the environment cost-effectively.

Ready-to-assemble precision bearing units are very much in vogue today. The assembly process is simplified and accelerated by assembling components that belong together, which results in optimised cost-effectiveness. The elimination of the axial contact surface in the locating holes contributes to the simplification of the surrounding parts.

A distinction must be made between precision pillow block units and precision flanged bearing units. The flattening on both sides of IBC high precision flanged bearing units result in a low overall height, which has a favourable effect on the design and makes them easy to handle during assembly.

Flange bearing units can be mounted on a face-ground mounting surface in two different ways. In order to align them radially during assembly, they can either be inserted into a calibrated bore with pinpoint accuracy and screwed into place or frictionally screwed into an oversized bore.

The on-site mechanics also appreciate the simple replacement of an assembly (ball screw + bearing unit) when servicing is required. A pre-assembled module can also be quickly reinstalled, thus reducing waiting times and downtimes.

In the BSBU-M series, the integrated locknut with matched labyrinth seal ensures that the precision flanged bearing unit is preloaded safely and easily.

Whereas flanged bearing units previously had to be supported by pillars, today's IBC high precision pillow block bearing units save assembly time and installation space. The close tolerance contact surfaces of the fixed and floating bearing units of the BSPB, BSPB-M and BLPB series, which have the same reference dimensions, have proven to be particularly advantageous. This means that the contact edge for the precision bearing units can be machined with those of the guideways. Pre-drilled pin holes allow precise fixing. IBC also offers IBC high precision bearing units with adapters for bearing KGT nuts (to DIN 69051). These are used in particular for long ball screws. Practically all applications are covered by IBC standard designs and serve as a basis for customised special solutions.
